Sira

"My name is Sira Soontornmongkol and I was born March 18, 1976. In 1999, I graduated with a college degree in business administration and, two years after graduation, a relative named Kreangkrai Thoojinda and I set up a basketry workshop. I had no experience in the wickerwork field, so I started by learning very hard from knowledgeable and skilled weavers in the central and eastern provinces of Thailand. I slowly became familiarized with the materials, the traditional patterns and with the weavers' working styles. The idea of modifying existing designs became essential. We would have to enhance the strength and update the patterns, so that our designs would be durable while retaining their traditional essence.

"The first consideration was to give traditional designs a contemporary twist so that they could suit today's styles. We combined lines and colors, modifying the handles, lining the interiors, etc. I worked on shapes, adapting that of leather bags for bamboo, while also increasing the strength of each item. We now work in close cooperation with a community of weavers. And we feature a whole range of quality and utilitarian baskets, bags, vases and more, all with a classic, yet trendy elegance."
