Ni Luh Putu Rusmini

"My name is Ni Luh Putu Rusmini and I am the eldest of six children. My father is an actor in the local theater and my mother is a dancer. They taught me and my brothers and sisters many things, especially those related to Balinese art and culture. When I was a little girl I learned the traditional dances, just like every child in my village did. By the time I finished Senior High School I was able to dance most of the traditional Balinese dances. Made use of my talent as a dancer performing traditional dances in some hotels in order to finance my university studies in Tourism.

"In 1990 I married a Javanese man named Koko. Because of his profession, we had to move to Java. However, by 1997 we moved back to Bali and decided to change our professions. We began to craft a variety of accessories, home furnishings and decorative items. I like to combine colorful beads and sequins to create compositions that are fashionable and trendy. I also work with natural materials, for example when crafting notebooks and photo albums. Our work gradually became recognized, and we have on occasion received orders from other parts in Indonesia as well as from other countries"
