"Accessories can be art objects as well as sculpture; they possess volume, form and textures that – when well-explored – can result in original pieces. I studied fine arts and fashion and, since I first began to be interested, I intuited that the bag was one of the strongest objects in fashion, as it reveals much about the person who carries it.
"My line of creation always was linked more with accessories. I went through a stage where I made ceramic necklaces, and was taking a creative path along this route. I like to make what is not yet discovered by the masses, what people are not yet using. That is, I like to launch new ideas and to create original pieces.
"The value of my pieces is in their details. Bags introduced the works of other artists such as Márcio Moreira, who makes beautiful aluminum handles, and of Guilherme Toledo, the ceramist responsible for the buttons. I believe that this type of partnership is very positive, since the work of one artist adds to that of another.
"To create a new piece is like an inspiration, like breathing in air. Sometimes the initial idea comes from a detail seen on another piece that is recreated, tested and modified until arrives at its final form. I begin to search for something definitive and many ideas appear, as if developing into beautiful products. This is the true aesthetic experience, pleasant in and of itself.
"To open a window on the world through the Novica is sensational. I believe that there is greater receptivity to my work beyond the limits of my country, where the exclusive is more highly valued."
