Shikha Singh

"As a child, I would paint and absorb images from all the fashion magazines I could get my hands on. With time, I could discern what was in and out of style. I wanted to pursue this love of fashion, and took a course in merchandising. Thereafter, I had the opportunity to work for Tarun Tahiliani, India's premier designer. I was thrilled.

"When I married in 2007, I had to make the move to a small city called Ghaziabad. Going to Delhi became difficult, and this became my chance to do something of my own. I decided to create exquisitely handmade bags because it was something different, and not many people have done it yet.

"I pair my knowledge of embroidery types and fabrics with Naseer's hands-on work in making a bag. He is my right hand and we work very closely on each design. I find inspiration in my home country. Beautiful things in India's colorful market fuel our work. This I mix and match with experiences and with everything I see around me to create original designs.

"Novica is exactly what I was looking for. Suddenly, from this small town I'm able to show me designs to the whole world. I'm thankful to all of you who appreciate my art and hard work."
