Kulpriya Pasuk

"Sawasdee Ka! My name is Kulpriya Pasuk; my friends call me by my nickname, Ooy. First, I'd like to thank everyone who is interested in my products. I hope that you can appreciate they are designed to preserve the life of nature. We use science and technology too much, so it's time everyone returned to nature and an uncomplicated lifestyle, starting by using handmade products created through the effort, hard work and imagination of people, as well as their love. You'll be proud to know that you have helped preserve nature in some way, and can help improve the conditions of people in Thailand's countryside.

"In 1976, I was born in a northern province and when I finished high school my family, who worked in agriculture, moved to northeast Thailand; there, I graduated with a bachelor's degree in Mass Communication. I have a sister and two brothers - I'm the second one. Mine is a warm family and I grew up surrounded by love and understanding. We always helped each other, so we wouldn't be afraid when we faced a problem. We lived according to our means, and had no use for extravagances.

"After graduation, I worked for about two or three years in different companies, where I gained experience in dealing with foreigners. I can safely say I appreciate the differences between the Thai culture and that of other countries. I consider myself lucky and proud to be Thai, because we are friendly people so we know that as long as we're in the Thai Kingdom, we'll never be alone. I lead a normal life, and I always do my best and never get discouraged. We all have problems; no one's life is perfect. The most important thing is to have self-discipline, to know oneself, and not desire the impossible. I have an independent mind and I always try to do the right thing - I don't bother anyone.

"After working for others, I decided to set up on my own. I've always had an interest in clothes and fashion so I decided to make it my profession. I am very grateful to my teacher, Arjan Dao. She taught me the art of crafting nylon handbags by hand. Making bags makes me use my imagination. I can picture the type of bag I want to create, its shape and color. Making the bag requires a lot of concentration. I really enjoy making the handbags, and I believe this kind of work - hand-crafted - has its own charm and it can never be replicated by a machine.

"I think Novica is the best alternative for showing handcrafted works to the world; it fills me with pride to see my work on the internet and know that many people, everywhere, can see it too!"
