Cony Novoa

"My full name is Cony Lucy Novoa Terry, and I was born in Lima on March 2, 1972. I've loved the art of creating ever since I was a little girl. I learned the basics from my grandmother, who taught me how to sew and craft. I loved everything she taught me, though I felt my learning was incomplete when she left us. I tried to fill-in the gaps, and I think she would be very proud to see how much I have achieved. I wish she would still be my side, though I know that wherever she is now, she is still near and is helping me.

"I began by selling my creations to my family and relatives, then to friends. My ambitions grew as time passed by, I wanted to improve my work, be the best and be original. That's why I studied hard and tried to be admitted in good schools, such as the one in the Art Museum.

"I have exhibited my creations in several places, such as the Pancho Fierro Gallery, the National Library, the Naval Museum and the Arte Petro Peru Gallery, amongst others. I've also participated in several fairs, workshops and seminars, and I was one of the finalists in the 2nd National Competition of Peruvian Art Design in 2005 with a kitchen set I made.

"My work philosophy is just one, to let the imagination and creativity in my artwork transmit my culture, its beauty and roots. One of my fondest memories is the night in which I managed to sell everything I had in my backpack, where there were weaves, ceramics, and art glass pieces.

"I love showing my work, it feels me with happiness since it is my life. I regard as my greatest challenge overcoming my grandmother's passing, but most importantly, it has been the realization that there are few people who really value and treasure our works, which are filled with culture and art. People should value what our country offers.

"Thanks to Novica and to you, for buying our Peruvian handicrafts, because every piece you purchase means more jobs for other people. The works I offer you feature a variety of techniques, including painting, ceramics, sewing, and glass art, all of which are articles I can make with my hands. They come from my own ideas, which result in new, original and contemporary designs."
