Brenda Rodríguez Calderón was born November 17, 1977 in the city of Lima. Although she began studying industrial design in the Universidad Católica, as time passed she realized that industrial design was not what she liked best. Her inclination tended more toward painting, but her family helped her realize that this wasn't her chosen field either. She left the university and reached a point where she wanted to find her identity and her path in life.
"I wanted to create something in a three-dimensional space, so I enrolled in the Instituto Superior Toulouse Lautrec where I specialized in interior design for three years," she recalls. Rodríguez graduated with honors and her thesis took first place.
"After working for a while, I entered a competition. And I thought I'd like to take my ideas beyond paper or the spoken word. I wanted to create designs and take them into people's homes everywhere," she says.
"My designs are inspired by the forms, colors and icons characteristic of ancient art, interpreted in a personal way. I always maintain a contemporary and minimalist line because of its sobriety and simplicity.
"I look for a chromatic contrast since this makes the pieces more attractive. My hope is to rescue the wide range of tonalities and shades that our ancestors used in the making of their textiles.
"My pieces are very well finished and woven of 100% wool using high quality natural dyes. This guarantees their exclusivity. Each work includes something traditional of Peru, created with great care so it will always be a piece of beauty."
