Suyanto

"My name is Suyanto. I'm from East Java but have been living in Bali for years. During my first visit to Bali, I stayed in Ubud, where the traditional art and culture hypnotized me for the very first time. Almost everyday is ceremony to Balinese people.

"Inspired by traditional art and culture and Bali's natural beauty, I have been creating bags of organic materials since 1999. What makes my bags special are their designs, which must undergo a smoking process at least twice. Each process creates a different level of colors from light brown to black. Most of my motifs are in the shape of geometric lines, the basis of every form in this world.

"The most common issue I face so far is selling the product. There are too many handicraft producers and a very limited number of buyers. It is fortunate to meet Novica, which promotes artists and artisans and help them sell their work via Internet."
